Vancouver <-> Edmonton [Dec. 8th, 2009|09:37 pm]

bogglerat
Would there be anyone driving from Vancouver to Edmonton before Christmas, and/or Edmonton to Vancouver after? Got an extra passenger seat?

I know it's a long shot, but just thinking of splitting the cost if I can.

furcon

[da_fox_qc]
Well..... im actually planning to be at FC 2010.

Its the first time for me on the West coast... and dont know many furries there.

The room i was supposed to be in misunderstood something and gave my place to someone else. So I lost my free spot >_<

My other friends that i was thinking to room with them now ask me wayyyyy too much to sleep there.

So, im looking for a spot (on the floor, in a bed, in the bath, under a table, closet, ANYWHERE) to sleep from the night of 21th to 26th... at the BEST price as possible!
Im coming from east of canada and plane is already WAY too much expensive but well...

Note that imma fursuiter, non smoker, dont really drink.
Im a clean person, so you wont find my clothes everywhere and all.
It's not important with who i room (guy or girl, suiter or not, couple or friends...) all i want i a place to sleep.

So let me know if you think ya can help a foxy with that... just write me a message =^.^=

heat lamp changes fur color o.O [Dec. 8th, 2009|07:24 pm]

fursuit

[beastcub]

so i am working in the cold and i got myself a heat bulb from walmart (big clear blub, looks like a floodlight) it heats for about 1 foot from the bulb with a 2 food wide warmth spand side to side so i am painting 1/3 of the suit at the time and drying it with the head lamp.

this suit included black CR's cubby fur in the areas i was not painting.
i came back like 40 minutes later to find a 3 inch spot on the knee, which was like 6 inches from the bulb, and was black, is now rust fox red D:?
the fur was not curled and melty, the color was changed all the way down to the base coat.

i fixed it by painting it black, but still, it had to of been the heat lamp...and now curiosity has me fired up to see if i can change other colors with the heat lamp, i bet the color change is more permanent than air brushing and maybe just maybe i can apply this new find on purpose.

EDIT: found the box, warning says it emits "IR radiation" (which may cause eye/skin injury and 20-30 minutes is the suggested exposure and not to have closer than 18 inches)
so this radiation must have changed the color from black to rust red/orange?

A pain but a necessary one [Dec. 8th, 2009|08:57 pm]

[Current Mood | cranky]

Well, started back on the diet again, simple foods like pickles, soup, tea, cold oatmeal, occasionally some tuna mixed with cottage cheese, and plenty of exercise (2 hour walk, bicycle twist crunches) should do me even better than last time. I hit 207.8 yesterday at the start, now after one day, it read 204.7.

I doubt the weight loss will be so good every day, but if it happens, so be it. Goal is 170, and Perhaps it's too much to expect that before the end of the year, but I'm trying anyways.

And bananas. Can't forget bananas.

Need comissions ASAP [Dec. 8th, 2009|08:04 pm]

da_fox_qc
Well well well......

Im open for comissions and I would need at least 4 head comissions at about 300$ to be able to make it to FC and maybe FWA!!!!!

If you know people interested, PLEASE, talk to them about my work.

300$us for a head is really not expensive for the kind of work I do, even if I am not pro.

I do use professionnal techniques since I've tried and expected many suits from pro builders like Mixed Candy, Onefurall, furrhappens, arend studios, firestormsix, noblewolf, b3mascot..........

So if you want, or know someone looking for a good quality head, fast completion at a really good price, im here!!! :P

PICS and all, see journal here:::: http://da-fox-qc.livejournal.com/18850.html

Theater Hopping [Dec. 8th, 2009|04:47 pm]

sabotlours
When I first embarked on this trip north, I had 2 possible plans for today. Plan A would be to drive all around northern CO (and possibly southern WY) in search of good trainspotting locations. Plan B, which would go into effect if the weather was really shitty, would be to head to the movies. Since the weather today was REALLY shitty, I put Plan B into operation. I drove a mile up the road to one of the new megaplexes. I had actually thought about walking, but with blowing snow and temps in the single digits, I decided to make the short drive.

I arrived at the theater for the matinee, and the ticket-seller was shocked to see me. I got my ticket for "The Fantastic Mr Fox" and was informed that I would probably have the theater to myself. Nope. 2 more folks showed up just before it began. I must say that it truly was a fantastic movie. I can't turn off the "furry bias" but I was enthralled by the movie. Once again, it was so "un-Hollywood." I had no idea where it was going. There were wonderful bits of randomness and deeper plot points where I least expected them. When it was over, the 2 other people in the theater actually started clapping. Closet furs? *lol*

Since it was still very early I decided to jump next door to see "Planet 51." I really had no desire to see it as a paying customer, but since it was just beginning, I decided to give it a try. This time I WAS the only person in the theater. It was not bad. For a kids' movie, it was actually pretty good. My favorite line when the alien kids see the astronaut naked; "That's a funny place for your antenna." Yeah. ok.

Plastic Eye Buffing?! [Dec. 8th, 2009|05:34 pm]

fursuit

[luckytheevildog]
So I have these large plastic eyes that I am trying to fix for a client's costume.

They are red plastic globes, with black eye cutouts glued on top. They look really good except, their staff have scratched the heck out of the eyes. Ive managed to get rid of most of the bad discolored scratches using Goof Off which worked great. Except, there are large patches where the gloss of the eyes are completely gone.

Image beneath cut. )
Anyone have any ideas what I can do to these things to make them glossy again? Is there a way to buff or shine them up?

My one idea I have is to tape off the area and lightly spray it with black gloss spray paint. Thats what we had to do with the old costume, but I was hoping to find some new way to repair this one, rather than multiple coats of paint... The red and the black plastic pieces are solid colors this time, not white and then spray painted the correct colors like they used to be.

EDIT: One suggestion was to use Shoe Polish and wax em up and then polish to a nice shine. This kinda worked. Filled in some of the gaps and shined up the others. Not bad for a quick fix.

Thanks!!

Fursuit WIP [Dec. 8th, 2009|08:57 pm]

fursuit

[fry_fuzzmutt]
sooo i thought id post a WIP of the suit ive been working on. i didnt get to work on it that much during the weekend than i expected.
well i got a bit of fur sewn together n thought id post to give you all an idea of the coat design i had gone for. im actually going to do the muzzle again i think i cut it wrong, but i trimmed it down to get a good idea of what this will look like finnished. cos the fur isnt even pinned on, the fur on the muzzle droops alot lower than the foam, but i love the shape so much i might alter the foam to give it a thicker muzzle!
PICTURE )

im hoping that this will sell when im done. well thats about it. thanks for reading!

Most of you will know about Nuts the squirrel of course. One group in my workplace has gone Nutty in a big way, with the curious fellow popping up everywhere. When they got a new member, a workmate went so far as to create a set of special edition Nuts (from home) to decorate her workspace with.

He kindly lent them to me so you can see them too )

The Shinning (sic) [Dec. 8th, 2009|09:12 am]

sabotlours
I had the weirdest thoughts last night as I woke up at around 3a. I started getting depressed that I may end up trapped in this motel room today since a storm was blowing in and temps were not going to break the single digits. My first thought was the movie "1408" which I watched with Free and Fritz over the weekend. I had completely forgotten about this movie until I looked it up on IMDB. It was the movie where John Cusack played a skeptical writer who specialized in haunted places. He stays at a hotel, run by Samuel L. Jackson, where dozens of people have died in room 1408. So he spends a night and the evil spirits do a complete and total mindfuck on him. I normally don't like horror films, but this one was pretty darn good. And of course I had to MST3K with the line, "That's it! I have had it with these muthahfucking ghosts in this muthahfucking hotel!"

I then started thinking of an even better flick for my current condition. "The Shining." Heck, the hotel that was used is only about 50 miles away in Estes Park! There's also the famous "fursuit scene" in the movie, and Nevada is sitting just a few feet away in his critter coffin. In the movie, Jack starts drinking a lot. *eyes the bottle of bourbon on the table*

"All work and no play make Sabot something something."
"Go crazy?"
"Thanks! Don't mind if I do!"

FOXMAS 2009 APPROACHES! [Dec. 8th, 2009|02:35 am]

[jaspian]
[Current Location |Partman!]
[Current Mood | squeeeeez'd]
[Current Music |Mt Eden - Daniel]

Just a reminder to all of you Northeasterly Furries that FOXmas will be going down THIS SATURDAY (Dec 12) at Soron's house in Rochester NY. Keep in mind that space at this occation is strictly limited. We need to know if we have enough space, and we need to know how much food and drink to buy. So please - if you are thinking about coming, be sure to contact Soron at least a few days prior at:

archerjoelson on AIM
-or-
archerjoelson@gmail.com

... be sure to tell him how many you are bringing with you and what their names are, and whether or not they will be drinking. Also be sure to ask for directions because Soron bought a house this year, and so we will not be at the previous property. This FOXmas will be 18+, 21+ to drink, and it will be strictly enforced. There will be a music & light show in the garage. Epileptics beware: do not go into the garage.

As with previous years, there are plenty of hotels within a few miles for those of you who don't like to sleep on the floor with another fur's feet sticking up your nose. In a startling (and extremely welcome) turn of events, I've discovered that if you book online, the very nice fancy-schmancy Doubletree in Rochester is like $20 cheaper than the Holiday Inn that FOXmas (convention) got evicted from. it was $104 / ni with my AAA card.

Finally, I urge all of you to bring some money. Most will be provided for. What we do not provide at FOXmas party is the Hangover Breakfast, which is usually less than $10 per. You can also skip the Hangover Breakfast if you prefer. It will be taking place around noon on Sunday, probably at the Cracker Barrel (details to come). We also will be accepting donations, and if you want to bring food or booze - this is the only Frozen Oasis event where we allow you to BYOB. Bring something nice!

Word Lingo [Dec. 7th, 2009|10:20 pm]

fursuit

[dragonlady2000]
[Tags|]

I am currently working on 'supplies' and 'commonly used words and phrases', in the basics tutorial. But I need your thoughts on what I got on this part so far and help with a few of the words.

What I have so far,

Commonly Used Words and Phrases

Fur ‘pile’ – Refers to the general length of the faux furs individual hairs/fibers itself and sometimes thickness.

Fur ‘grain’ – Or the ‘lay’, refers to the natural direction the fur tends to want to lay. Like on an animal if you pet from there head to tail its nice and smooth, but vice versa it gets bumpy, ragged and the animal might get mad. So when furing a fursuit, costumers tend to like to replicate this for a more natural appearance.

‘Taping’ – Refers mostly to making detailed tape patterns for ‘furring’ and sometimes the making a duck tape dummy or a ‘DTD’.

DTD - A duct-tape dummy. When someone wraps themselves or a part of themselves in duct tape to create a perfect pattern of their body.

DF - A short phrase for a specific online seller of fur known as ‘Distinctive Fabric’.

CR(CR's) - A short phrase for a specific online seller of fur known as ‘CR's Crafts’.

‘Mask’ – What usually come first to mind is just a cloth or a plastic face piece that goes over your own akin to one you’d see at Halloween or a costume party. But a lot of fruiters tend to refer to there mascot/costume heads as there ‘masks’.

‘Moving Jaw’ – Aptly named, this refers to the jaw and mechanism (spring or elastic etc.) that moves with the wearers own jaw movements.

‘Static Jaw’ – Refers to when the jaw is set into a fixed position on the head and doesn’t move.

‘Digitigrade’ and ‘Plantigrade’ – Refers to the style of leg/feet of the costume. To put it simply, ‘Digitigrade’ walks on its toes like a dog, while ‘Plantigrade’ walks on its heel, like humans.

'Guard Hairs' – are the longer, coarser hairs of the coat, as opposed to the undercoat, which is the shorter, denser part of the fur.

‘Tiped’ - Refers to the coloration of faux fur were the tips of the hairs are a different color then the underlying fur.

Please feel free to enlighten me about them. And I want your personal thoughts as well. But please be gentle, I'm doing the best I can and I'm trying to make this intro/tutorial as fair and non-bias as can be.
