fursuit

[kitshera]
Hey so before I was thinking of commissioning someone to do me a tail, but I decided I'll just make one myself.

Where can I find ridiculously soft, very realistic looking fur?  I've had some before, but I don't remember where I got it. D:  I've gone through all the links on the front page, and none of them have what I'm looking for, unless I'm missing something.

Here's an example of something I'm looking for:

I'd order from them, if they shipped to the USA... however they only ship within the UK.  I'm actually looking for fur that quality, but in longer strand length.  That's a bit short for my tastes =/

I used to have fur similar to that when I did make fur tails, but I've been out of the fur community for so many years, I don't even remember where I used to buy it.  (It's like the softest thing ever,  omg. x.x)

Anyhow, if anyone could help me, I'd really appreciate it.  Thank you. <3

WIP Pics & Stripes Question [Nov. 9th, 2009|05:53 pm]

Hey everyone, some WIP pics of my first fursuit head under the fake cut.Read more... )

I'd love some crit on what I have so far. I think I have a lot more trimming to go. I'd also like some feed back on the best way to do stripes. I was thinking I could do one of three options: 1. Paint on the stripes using watered down acrylic paint/dye, 2. Attach the stripes separately as fur, or 3. attach the fur as separately flat felt like the eyebrows. Just FYI, the eyes and brows are just resting on the head until I get the buckram for the irises, and the ears are being constructed separately. Thanks!

Looking for Seal Furs. [Nov. 9th, 2009|04:40 pm]

fursuit

[signal08]
Hi! (:

I'm looking to make a dragon that consists of dark blue, baby blue, and cream colors. I have found the perfect dark blue seal fur, but I'm not having any luck with the baby blue, or cream/beige colors.

Can anyone link me to a sight that sells SEAL color furs like this? I check the popular fur sites such as distinctive fabric and CRs craft, none of which have these colors. DF does have the colors in long fur, but I don't think 2" fur would look very good on a dragon.

PLEASE, any help would be very much appreciated. I'm hoping to find close matches in high quality furs.

Thank you! (:

The point of it all [Nov. 9th, 2009|01:08 pm]

Was just reading about the impending execution of the DC Beltway Sniper, John Muhammad, and got to thinking about a couple of things.

What is the point of Life imprisonment as opposed to execution? It doesn't help society, stretches out the pain and suffering felt by the victim's and their families...the continuing fear that someday they might be released...

The cost to the state, the lack of rehabilitation...just because it's supposedly more humane and just to have someone sit and rot in jail until they die?

Execution seems far more humane and just. It gives closure to that desire for justice/revenge.

Personally, I like the idea of more corporal punishments and fair treatment. If you steal a loaf of bread, you should be forced to pay back twice what you stole, NOT a 500.00 fine and 2 years probation, 24 hours community service, and counseling(example, not personal experience)

If you rape someone, you should be tied to a bed and raped TWICE, NOT 20-30 years in a state prison (where you could be raped HUNDREDS of times)

Eye for an eye, not a life for a fingernail.

Reminder: Anthrocon 2010 DJ Auditions are Open! Deadline is January 1st! [Nov. 9th, 2009|11:02 am]

anthrocon

[simbalion]
[Current Mood | excited]

Hey there DJs! Are you interested in some Stage Time at the Anthrocon 2010 dances? Prepare your audition mixes! Every year, Anthrocon provides many hours of dances, showcasing the talents of some of the best DJs the Furry Fandom has to offer. If you're interested in being a part of this magic, send us your audition mix (details below). All auditions must be received by January 1st! Selection will begin in January.

In order to DJ at Anthrocon, you must submit an audition mix. The best format is MP3, but almost anything will do. If you're not sure if your media is acceptable, e-mail the address below to find out. Most likely we'll be able to work with it.

Please be sure your mix is at least 30 minutes, and at most 90 minutes. When considering DJs, the following items play a part in selection.

- Live mixing skill
- Phrase and beatmatching
- The use of mixing hardware
- Song selection
- Genre (Don't assume we won't play what you mix, take a chance! If it kicks ass I might book you even if we've never had that genre before)
- Attitude
- Experience

Please understand, no single one of these things will determine who gets to DJ and who doesn't. The selection process is a balancing act.

Send all questions and comments to: smblion at anthrocon dot org

A reminder, if you have DJed Anthrocon in recent years an audition mix is not needed, but you MUST e-mail me to notify me of your interest to return in 2010. If you do not e-mail me you will not be booked.

Ok so I have an important question about the way plush furs describes their fabrics.

They mention a few descriptors before the names and I want to clarify what quality they fall under.

The first is the "plush furs"- is that basically a cheap short pile fun fur?
http://www.plushfurs.com/eShop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=1048

The next is the "beaver furs"- this looks like a high quality seal, but I don't know and if anyone has used it please let me know if it is because I want to buy some from there if it is.
http://www.plushfurs.com/eShop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=1052

The last is the "shag furs"- I know the promo shags are basically DF long piles, but are the regualar shags long fun fur?
http://www.plushfurs.com/eShop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=1436

Thanks for the help, its hard to call the company and ask since they don't describe their furs like other companies, so I don't think they would understand my question.

Just a quick idea! [Nov. 9th, 2009|10:34 am]

So I sort-of mentioned this to another fur, but in regards to making claws:

I was wondering how it would look to use finger picks as a base for the claws since it would set on your hands better. You could then sculpt around the finger picks and so it would be easier to keep the claws in place. That way, if you're say...a Cat with thinner gloves, you could keep the claws from either falling off your fingers or twisting up at an awkward angle. I've not made a suit yet so I don't know how difficult it would be to keep the claws on or sew them into the suit, but I thought it might help to use the picks...

Oh here's a link to show you the picks btw. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/2/1746825_e02deb7e24.jpg?v=0

Doggie Dash '09 [Nov. 9th, 2009|08:05 am]

sabotlours
On Sunday I performed in my 7th Doggie Dash and Dawdle for Animal Humane. Once again it was a great gig although I am really getting tired of Zunipup. I think it's time I upgrade to a better dog. But anyway...it was a fun time running around and interacting with LOTS and LOTS of dogs. There was relatively little growling/barking at the big goofy humans trying to look like canines. Once again, I was accompanied by [info]scritchwuff in his wolf suit. We were well received by everyone there. Kitty ended up collecting a whole bunch of swag for us which will all go to Mesa. Speaking of Mesa, he also had a fun time once again. Many butts were sniffed. Oh, and yes, my butt was sniffed a lot by the other dogs, much to the amusement of the crowd. Like last year there were constant comments of "Look! It's a dog walking a dog!" as I made my way with Mesa during the fun walk.

This year there were 3 other mascots in attendance; Louie Lobo from UNM, a dog from a grooming/boarding place, and the Magic FM bunny. We saved Louie's butt in that they didn't have a changing area for him so we allowed him to use our changing tent. I think the mascot from the grooming place liked being in a dog suit, but I had to reprimand her in pantomime for taking her head off during the performance. She lol'd.

And now PICS!

Lobo Louie, Creepy Magic FM Bunny, Zuni, Scritch, and of course, Mesa.

Hello everyone! I cant remember if I have posted here before, but if not, I am Silent Wolf. I just recently graduated college and moved out to the west coast, where i managed to pick up a few fursuit commissions.

I am working my way through the first right now, its a red and tan Jackal suit for a friend, and I am getting close to finishing up the head. I wanted to get opinions on how I have the markings laid out, the eyes, and the overall expression before I proceed.

Hey, I'm gonna make a music video about Howloween for Youtube. Hours of footage down to a ten minute music video. Perhaps some supplements with specific stage events. If you have footage that I could use, contact me.

Also, if you were taking footage with my camera, contact me about how you would like it used.

Half Marathon done [Nov. 9th, 2009|01:37 am]

[Current Mood | accomplished]

Heyos, I know as usual its been too long since I last updated. Alas there not all that much to report. Post AC was FF and there really very little to say on "couch-con". Honestly 90% of going there is sitting on a couch in the lobby and chatting with friends as they go bye.

Halloween was really uneventful, with the weather becoming rainy so alas very little in the way of kids doing the trick-or-treat. Though I did have lotsa fun wearing my suit at work

Today was very exciting/painful as I finally finished a half-marathon today. Yes that's 13.1 miles. Alas my time was not what I wanted and finished with it just under 3 hours so that's an average of 4.39 mph. But I did burn some 2453 calories in the run and least I was able to do this all outside. Figure this is probably the last time the weather will hold out till Disney in January. At least I know now that I can do it. Heh though it will take even more training if I am going to go back in 2011 to tackle the full marathon.

Different kind of question - how does one suggest making footpaws suitable for a stage play? Paws that will be worn by different people with many foot sizes.

The idea of making them the largest size doesn't really appeal to me since I know a size 12 foot is pretty tricky for my size 7 foot to wear and not fall all over the props. And with a play, movement (and lack of tripping) is everything.

Any one have experience in doing this or have ideas of making paws multi-sized? If I have to I can make them fit the current actors solely but it'd be nice to have a bit more versatility afterwards.

Gloves and cartoon characters [Nov. 8th, 2009|08:25 pm]

[Current Mood | geeky]

I got another Cintiq. I sold my old one back in March when I thought I might end up leaving the US, and I just had to get another. Doodling and painting was getting kind of hard on my old 6x8 wireless Graphire.

But now I totally feel like out of a 40's short, cause I got some cotton gloves to use so i dont smudge and thumbprint all over the Cintiq screen. I was trying to find the ones specifically made by artists, but at $15 plus shipping, i thought just plain old white gloves with the fingertips cut off would work just fine for $5.
